🎞️ - Trying Portra 800 in Vancouver around the end of May

I feel like this roll had fewer strong keepers than I expected because I spent/wasted a few frames trying to get the right execution of a specific idea. This is my first-ever roll of Portra 800 but at this point I'm pretty comfortable with shooting film so I'm falling a little back into my old, not necessarily bad, habits of taking a few variations of an image before choosing a keeper. I didn't do that with the roll of Color Mission I posted about last week 'cause of how hard it is to get my hands on that film stock and how inconsistently its available.

That being said, I like the keepers that I got and the scans are much easier to work with than the Color Mission scans.

Science World from the ferry
Science world from the ferry.

I wanted to get a shot of Science World from the False Creek Ferry with a bit of the ferry in frame and this is it. I tried it a few times across multiple trips but I think this was the best one. I think the right side of the opening is a smidge too close to the middle and it makes the photo feel kind of cramped. For the record, shooting backwards on a trip from Village to Plaza or Yaletown seems to be the way to go to get this perspective.

The other shot that I wanted to get was of somebody looking out the front of the Skytrain at Vancouver's skyline. Here are a few variations of this one.

Vancouver from the Skytrain (1)
This one's my favourite compositionally. I like that the guy is actively filming the ride and that the view is largely unobstructed. I opted to level the image based on the outside view rather than the interior 'cause I wanted to emphasize the feeling of the train taking the banked turn.
Vancouver from the Skytrain (2)
Similar to the picture above but instead of someone holding their phone, it's someone looking out the window.
Vancouver from the Skytrain (3)
From the same ride as (2), but now we're reaching the flat part of the track before Science World. I like this because of the tracks leading to Science World but that's bout the only thing it has going for it. No interesting banked turn, figures feel static.

And finally, a random photo from that weekend. At the time I only owned a 35mm and 50mm lens for my film camera so I was forced to crop aggressively. I think if I had a longer lens I could've taken a better shot.
