There's a skyscraper with a public-accessible viewing deck at the top near my place. One night I went up to get some fresh air after dinner and noticed that the full moon was lined up perfectly with the Empire State Building but (much to my dismay) I didn't have the right lens for that photo at all. The conditions lined up perfectly and I just wasn't ready.
So of course I went back up the next day and of course the moon was no longer aligned and there were clouds. Disappointing, but I'll have to try it again in August.
